Your support and contributions will enable us to help kids like Bryson with the necessary protective medical equipment they need. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
Brock and Bryson Thompson, brothers, began Helmets4Helmets at the ages of 8 and 6, as a way to give back to a foundation that had helped Bryson so much, Jack's Helping Hand. They decided they wanted to start their own foundation to help kids around the world who have epilepsy, like Bryson does. Bryson started having seizures at the age of 4 and his epilepsy is still uncontrolled today. After having hundreds of seizures in less that a 24 hour time period, Bryson's doctor told him he needed to wear a helmet to protect his head. His insurance, shockingly, would not pay for it. This floored the family and the boys decided no one else should have to deal with this. So they asked their friend, and former Saint, Zach Strief, if he could get them a Drew Brees helmet that they could auction off to raise money to help other kids buy helmets. He of course said "yes" and Helmets4Helmets began!
Word started to spread what the boys were trying to do and they started to receive helmets, jerseys, balls, even guitars signed by some amazing stars including: Tom Brady, Magic Johnson, Joe Namath, Odel Beckham Jr, Brandon Belt, Little Big Town, Sam Hunt, the entire Warriors team, Erin Andrews, the LA Kings just to name a few.
The View brought the boys out to New York and on air introduced them to Kobe Bryant, who became friends with the boys.
Jane Slater with the NFL Network met the boys at a Cowboys training camp and decided she had to do a piece on their story which aired on NFL Network on Thanksgiving morning. Needless to say, the boys online auction was cleared out after that and they have been able to help over 40 kids with protective helmets.
Kids with epilepsy have a lot of risk just being "normal" active kids. Without a helmet to protect their heads, day to day activities such as playing on the playground, playing basketball, going on a walk, all create a huge concern and constant stress for the families. With medical bills, household bills and, a lot of the time, a parent's inability to work to be close to their child, makes something like a helmet (which can range from $150 to thousands of dollars) impossible to afford. That's where we come in.
We want to help kids be kids, let them run and play, help the families to have some piece of mind that their child will be as safe as can be while having epilepsy.
Seeing a need for assistance for protective medical equipment for kids, we formed our organization to provide solutions. We've consistently grown since then, all thanks to the helping hands of this amazing community!
